The Crossing the Baltic team would like to thank everyone who has contributed to a successful year 2013. In addition to having a published some excellent blog posts and articles we have also been able to do a number of other activities.
Two of our editors visited the BASEES European Congress at the University of Cambridge and provided everyone who could not be present with plenty of live tweets. Moreover, we were able to be present at the LSESU Polish Economic and Business Forum, LSESU Baltic Forum and at a communication expert meeting that took place in Helsinki last December as part of the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
Crossing the Baltic was also able to contribute to a conference at the University of Glasgow – A Long Way from Home: The Baltic People in the United Kingdom. Our blog was seen by many as an outstanding effort to combine academic research, blogging, journalism and a general interest in the Baltic Sea Region.
An article about the conference at the University of Glasgow appeared in the Lithuania tribune: http://www.lithuaniatribune.com/32813/a-long-way-from-home-lithuanians-in-scotland-201332813/
We have also been able to extend our collaboration with presidentialactivism.com and we are now working with Presidential Power, a great new blog about presidents and presidential power around the world.
In addition, one of our regular contributors, Leena-Mari Laukkanen has started her own award winning travel blog London & beyond. This blog is currently only available in Finnish but she also has an English blog.
For 2014 we are planning to update our nightlife guide to Helsinki, take a closer look at the Ukrainian minority in Poland, discover Estonia’s contemporary art scene, report from an exciting vintage bicycle race in Copenhagen, examine late Soviet tobacco and alcohol policies – and of course there are the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
And as always, we are looking forward to your ideas…
